While it’s easy to get caught up in the technical details, it’s important to remember that we’re playing a part in the next generation of space exploration. Now that humans have been living and working continuously in space for 20 years on the International Space Station, our next mission is to set up shop around the moon, and HALO will be where astronauts will live and conduct research, a critical rest stop for future planetary exploration missions. Today, I am the deputy chief engineer for the Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO), which is the first habitable element of NASA’s Gateway. I liked the idea of building things, and throughout my career working in spacecraft design and human spaceflight, it has been an endless frontier filled with challenges, adventure and scientific discovery. We’re part of the Artemis generation - NASA’s next space adventure - and I’m excited for the quests ahead of us.ĭeputy Chief Engineer, Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO)Īt a young age, I played with a space-themed LEGO® set, reconfiguring the toy rocket launcher into countless designs. The shuttle sent humankind into orbit Artemis will go farther into space than ever before, providing us with a more in-depth understanding of the moon, our future in deep space and, eventually, Mars - a challenging endeavor.Īt lift-off, I know I’ll be proud of our work. However, by contributing to that safety system, my team is directly protecting and saving the lives of the Artemis crew.īeing only a year and a half into my career, I did not work on the shuttle program, so Artemis is a completely new adventure for me, just as it is for the astronauts and most Americans. I work on the Launch Abort System abort motor - one of three motors within the system that fires if there is an issue with the Artemis launch vehicle - and I always say I’m working hard on something that I hope we will never have to use. Wow, thank you so much KingsKnight! Looking at the instructions it looks like I have most the parts from the LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Space Shuttle set, but I still need to order a few and dive through my collection.Materials and Process Design Engineer, Launch Abort System Abort Motor Lego Ideas Space Shuttle Instructions PDF I had to pick specific colors since I’m putting together an actual set (for a friend's birthday), but all of the internal colors can be whatever you want to help save on costs. Hopefully I can put out an updated version that looks cleaner. It's low resolution and I had to fix a lot of the pages in photoshop and add necessary notes (and missing parts!). This is my first time using instruction software, so I'm learning. The parts lists are at the end of each section. Contains instructions for the Orbiter, External Tank, Solid Rocket Boosters, a simple display stand, and the Astrovan (I will try and post the Launch Pad from the Ideas Update at a later date). With the help of and as well as others on Facebook, this version has been improved over the original Ideas submission, so it's stronger and more stable (I'm calling it v2.0). I finally sat down and compiled instructions for my Lego Ideas Space Shuttle.
